Privacy Policy

Footprints ("we," "our," or "the app") is a personal walking tracker developed by Taveyo. This Privacy Policy explains what data Footprints collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that data.

1. Data We Collect

Footprints collects the following data to provide its core functionality:

• Precise location data (GPS coordinates) — Collected in both the foreground and background when tracking is enabled. Used to build your personal walking heatmap, calculate distances, and determine neighborhood coverage.
• Motion and activity recognition data — Used to automatically detect when you are walking so that tracking can start and stop without manual intervention.
• Walking statistics — Distance, duration, speed, cells visited, and streaks. These are computed locally from your GPS data.

2. How Your Data Is Stored

• All walking data is stored locally on your device in a SQLite database.
• We do not operate servers that store your personal data. No data is transmitted to us.
• Optional cloud backup: You may choose to back up your data to Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iOS). This is entirely user-initiated and optional. We do not automatically upload any data. When you use cloud backup, your data is subject to Google's or Apple's respective terms and privacy policies.

3. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services, each of which may receive limited data:

• Mapbox — Provides the map display. When loading map tiles, your device sends tile requests to Mapbox servers, which include the visible map region. See the Mapbox Privacy Policy.
• OpenStreetMap Overpass API — Used to fetch neighborhood boundary data for your area. Geographic coordinates are sent to Overpass servers for this purpose. See the OpenStreetMap Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In (Android) — Used solely for authenticating access to Google Drive for the optional backup feature. No profile information is collected or stored by us beyond what is necessary to authenticate.

4. What We Do Not Collect

• We do not use any analytics or crash reporting SDKs.
• We do not display advertisements or use ad-tracking technologies.
• We do not create user accounts or profiles on our servers.
• We do not sell, share, or transmit your personal data to any third parties for marketing or any other purpose.

5. Data Deletion

You can delete all your walking data at any time from the Settings screen within the app. When you delete your data, it is permanently removed from your device's local database. If you have backed up data to Google Drive or iCloud, you may also delete those backups through the respective cloud service.

6. Data Security

Your data is stored locally on your device and protected by your device's built-in security measures (screen lock, encryption). We do not have access to your data. Cloud backups are protected by Google's and Apple's security infrastructure.

7. Children's Privacy

Footprints is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app, the data can be deleted from the device's Settings screen.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
